Our Story

From our family's kitchen to Poughkeepsie.

Pho 96 began with something simple: years of Nguyen family cooking and a desire to share it with more people. Helena and Chi Nguyen are among the family members who brought those traditions out of the home and into a restaurant of their own.

Opening the doors took longer than expected. After originally planning a September opening, Pho 96 welcomed its first guests on December 15, 2024. Through the process, the family held onto the ideas that shaped their cooking at home—balancing taste and health, respecting Vietnamese traditions, and making food to be shared.

That family history shows up in small details throughout the restaurant. The Vietnamese coffee, for example, is prepared using a traditional method Chi learned from his aunt, who sold coffee on the street in Vietnam. The goal is bigger than serving a meal: it is to give guests an introduction to the food, traditions, and care behind it.
